Wualai Walking Street

E-mail Print PDF
The Wualai Road Saturday Market

Is a weekly street market open from 5:00 till 10:45 pm every Saturday.

Setting up starts late every week as is hot and they really are not set up till dark as shown by the picture of the man setting up after 5:00 pm so come late for sure. It is also called saturday walking street.

It is created by shutting down the old silversmith street which is just off the outside of the Chiang Mai gate handicraft and oddity market.City hall conceived- but it was cool enough in the Mercedes when the Thai Rak Thai rep who lives off the street check it out. No nobody complain or they will be … Just joking they complained! But what do they care.

A few people come early at 5:00 pm but the setting sun gets in their eyes.

It is not as popular with tourists as the more famous walking street on Sunday but it is very much supported by Thai families and young college students. It is several blocks long and the heat before sunsets makes walking before sunset a little hot too put it nicely.

Here you can get a Thai massage or foot massage in the open or hunt for unique handicrafts or just listen to the musicians that may be on makeshift stage any Saturday. Food is a little limited on the street but there are some food vendors selling out of the homes.

So if you want to check out from the tourist activates and play like a Thai, wonder down but don't expect to haggle much like at night bazaar, as that is for tourists this is still for Thais.

I guess I will step out side my front door now and see what photos I can get for this page as it is in front of my ever Saturday evening now. So be sure to stop in and check out the wedding invitations or wedding dresses or just have a cuppa.
