Spa and Massage

AKA Spa I decided to indulge myself with a pampering session at AKA Spa as a birthday treat. The Spa is situated in a very peaceful area in Chiang Mai and is set in a secluded garden with plenty car parking for customers. As I am an ex pat who has lived in Chiang Mai for three years I found the location relatively easily.

You can cross, in an easterly direction, over the River Ping by either the Chalermpraket Rama Bridge or the Nakorrping Bridge and the Spa’s location is well signposted from there. Most hotels, guest houses and tourist information booths display leaflets about the AKA Spa and the services it offers. The chance to have a relaxing spa to take away any aches and pains is for me, too much to resist. A full day, half a day or indeed a couple of hours under the hands of an experienced massage therapist is an opportunity not to be missed. One soon immerses oneself in the treatment and unwinds as the therapist begins to work on your body’s tensed areas, thus creating a sensual experience. The room the friendly female member of staff took me to was beautifully decorated in Thai style teak wood, with soft lighting and soothing music. The massage bed itself was comfortable and relaxing allowing me to sink into the fabric without any discomfort.

For regulars who frequent the AKA Spa in Chiangmai, they can be offered a masseuse of their own choice and also substantial discounts may be given for various spa packages which are available. There is a wide range of treatments and one is always given a spa menu with the different packages which clearly display the time it takes and the price it costs.

For me personally on my birthday I plumped for AKA Lanna Bliss which cost my generous husband 2,600 baht (about 50 pounds) and took approximately two and a half hours. The treatment began with a sports type massage which included hot oil being rubbed into my body. I then had reflexology and hand treatment which included cleansing, scrub, wrap, massaging and finishing off with moisturizer. Two and a half hours of sheer delight and joy.

There are of course many other treatments such as a traditional Lanna Massage, Head and Shoulder Massage, Reflexology, Heat Compress and Oil Massage. Also available are Lanna Scrubs, Wraps and Facials and maybe to finish off, why not try a floral Jacuzzi or a herbal steam bath? As mentioned previously Spa packages are also available and last a lot longer than the ordinary type of massage. Treatments last from two and a half hours up to five hours of pampering, with such beautifully named delights as “Ancient Indian Style”, “Hawaiian Heaven”, “Siam Serenity” and “AKA Lanna Bliss”.

I have visited this Spa on many occasions and have found the masseuse to be very professional and courteous. They all seem to know just which parts of the body to massage, helping to relieve any stress or tension one may have. I recommend this establishment very highly and anyone wishing to go, I would urge them to make a reservation first, due to its enormous popularity.
