Volunteer Visions

E-mail Print PDF

Chiang Mai, the capital of northern Thailand is full of beautiful temples, scenic mountain views and great nights out. Often visitors are masked from the young people who can be helped from volunteers such as yourself. Chiang Mai is home to Volunteer Visions, a group who reaches out to low-resourced communities and by donating a little time and energy, can bring happiness to under privileged children.

As the group work with non governmental organisations, thy rely on the kindness of expats, holiday makers and long stay visitors to help boost the community and bring out the best in Thailand. The projects which are undertaken focus on aspects of poverty to sea turtle poaching. These projects take place all over Thailand, but Chiang Mai is the home for helping orphans and other needy members of the Thai community.

There are trips which Volunteer Visions can organise, to be a part of the project and give help to those who need it most. There are fees, as with any volunteer program, but it is all inclusive and covers between 6-24 months of work. The cost is ploughed into the business and keeps it running which in turn helps the projects stay afloat and makes for better standards of living to those involved.

The main contributors to the volunteer program are travellers who want to be part of making change in Thai poverty, students on summer breaks, graduates who want to develop their life skills, retirees and expats who want to give back to the community in which they live and individuals on volunteer breaks.

There are group projects, whereby if there is a group of people wanting to help run a project in Chiang Mai they can all join at the same time. The work is recommended to be booked and paid for around 30-60 days in advance. The staff can assist in explaining vaccinations and what to bring. Home comforts will help, photographs will help the host community understand about you and where you come from. It will also be an insight into how life is different and this will ultimately help the want and need to enhance their own lives, through help from you.

The projects which are currently being worked on in Chiang Mai are Teaching English to helping out single mothers, being a part of the HIV orphanage for children to assisting with the public park landscaping. This array of exercises will not only help the under privileged persons involved, it will also give a massive sense of achievement for yourself. Giving time and effort to those who need it most, is very worthwhile and very good karma.

To be a part of Volunteer Visions in Chiang Mai or northern Thailand as a whole, you can do so by emailing Volunteer Visions. By helping the children and Thai community, the ever friendly Thai's will be very appreciative.

By volunteering, you can change the outcome of the needs of under privileged and help the overall situation of desperate people.
