The Duang Dee Coffee Story
In the past, Large Development Programs promoted coffee growing
in many small hill tribe villages, in northern Thailand, as a
cash crop replacement for opium growing, as it can be stored for
a long time. However thousands of the finest coffee trees were
abandoned or cut down as many of the small and most remote farmers
, who produced the best beans, had no ready market to sell their
premium raw coffee beans. This problem is now solved!
We at "Duang Dee Hill Tribe Coffee" a small "micro
coffee roasting company", now work together with these remote
farmers and purchase all these small amounts of coffee, that each
farmer produces and then we blend and hand roast it, to produce
the finest "Organically Grown" coffee in Thailand.
Duang Dee Hill Tribe Coffee is proud to help the hill tribes to
maintain their traditional way of life, that they so cherish,
and to this end, Duang Dee Hill Tribe Coffee, contributes a percentage
of each sale into small hill tribe development projects.
We are happy to announce that this rainy season alone, at the farmers request, we have been able to grow and distribute, for free over 6,000 premium coffee trees, to remote hill tribe families in the highest mountains of northern Thailand. We are now in the process of growing and distributing an additional 20,000 trees for this season. No farmer is under any obligation to sell this fine coffee to us.
The best coffee comes from trees which
are planted in small plots with other types of trees, to help
stop soil erosion. What makes these coffee beans special, is the
fact that they are grown in the partial shade of others trees
and at just the right altitude, without the use of pesticides
or any chemicals. We promote and educate the farmer we work with,
to grow coffee just that way!
We are always looking for areas to reactivate the coffee production, so if you meet hill tribes, that produced coffee but do not know were to sell it, tell them about us!

"Unique Strong" is the closest thing to perfect coffee, if you like the fullest flavor in your brew. It is never bitter, rather a nutty flavor that will wake up your taste buds. We recommend it as the first cup of the day, to get you off to a good start.
"Extra Smooth" is easy to digest. This coffee blend is roasted to bring out the full yet mild taste of our fine Aribica beans. It is preferred by people who enjoy the taste of real coffee but may find some coffee harsh to digest.
"Classic blend" is loved by many of our loyal customers who have told us, they can't get enough of it and don't change it one bit.
So for whatever type coffee you prefer we now have a blend
to suit your taste.. True connoisseurs can choose a different
blend for each of your moods. Please note that the new packaging
now is more compact to help you take more coffee home in your
suit case or backpack.
Hemp Coffee Filters: That is right Duang Dee now has 100% naturaul Hemp coffee filters. We have arranged for the production of reusable hemp coffee filters. No need to use paper filters any more. These chemical free filters are very economical and have been tested in our Guesthouse for some months now and have stood up to our heavy coffee consumption should last years under normal household conditions. we hope to be able to offer them in stores that sell our coffee soon but in the mean time just drop by and pick your up at Duang dee house.
Used clothing: Duang Dee Guest House is seeking used children winter clothing to distribute to the remote villages where the winter nights are very cold and the children have no access to heavy clothing. If you would like to help just drop off any clean used clothing or blankets at Duang Dee House and we will make sure it gets to the needest of the hill tribes.
We are happy to announce the new "Cottage Industry Sized" factory we have been able to create with your support, in the Prao Province, of northern Thailand.
It is a custom designed and build batch style coffee roaster system. We have stayed faithful to the methods that have brought us so much praise, from you true coffee lovers. The roaster itself is made of stainless steel and can roast small lots of coffee at a time, but is more efficient in use of labor, than the old one, enabling our small crew to roast 3 times more coffee in a day.
Praos' country air, now has the nice aroma of fresh roasted coffee, on the days we roast. We invite you all to visit this lovely part of Thailand and see why we call it the a "slice of heaven". We have been made feel like a part of the family by the locals and hope many of you can come and visit us when we are a little more, set up for visitors.
