We are happy to announce that Duang Dee House is now expanding the coffee tree project. So to this end we will be accepting any and all donations.
Duang Dee House has arranged with "Sop Moei Arts" one of the most reputable hill tribe groups in Thailand to handle the acceptance of donations for our small coffee tree project. We will still be running the project, but we felt that a separate party should handle and oversee the donations, assuring you that every donation is used to its fullest.
In the past Duang Dee House has solely funded this project, but the need and demand is such that Duang Dee House can not to do it all, by themselves. Many of our coffee loving friends have asked what they can do to help. Some have helped with deliveries of coffee trees and others helped to teach villagers how to best grow the fine coffee plants so that the environment is unharmed and the coffee flavor is the fullest possible. It is clear not all of you can take the time out to volunteer, so you too can help in a much needed manner, through your donations. It may not be as visible or as glamours but just as important!
We give about 25 plants to each family who wish to participate in the project. That is enough that they will be able to create enough income to send up to 3 children to school. It is only the start, we feel that the plants we offer are a very good way in which the villages can help themselves while helping to maintain the village life style without the need to transform the mountain side area into a monoculture area. We encourage the preservation of the forest, as coffee grows well in the naturally treed mountain sides. There is no need to cut down the forest or create a field type garden, in fact it is best not to, for the fullest flavored coffee. It may also be used as a stabilizing crop which helps to stop erosion problems on already cleared hillsides which are used for growing other cash crops like cabbages.
Duang Dee House never asks any of the villagers to only sell the coffee to Duang Dee House, but instead they have paid top prices for top quality coffee so the villagers would prefer to sell it to them. This is a project that the villager have asked for not a project that was set from outside but one that is developed with the villagers at their request.
