Tim and Tracy from England January 22 2545 (2002) Thanks Tim and Tracy for letting us use your photos on the site! The Real Lanna Buddhist Wedding: Morning Offerings: It started before the sun rises (5 am) by preparing and giving offerings to the monks as they do their morning rounds. They start their rounds when they can see the lines of of their palm on their hand by the morning light. This offering is of food for the body, 3 incense sticks one for the Buddha, one for the words of Buddha and one for the Buddhist monks, (prapoot, pratum, prasong) and flowers. No Thai Buddhist wedding is complete without the offering being made in the early morning. Sorry it has to be so early but to do it right it must be, the merit you will receive makes the early morning well worth it. If you are lucky enough to get offered a blessing by an elder monk at this occasion you are truly in for a enlightened marriage. It is worth the effort, or we can have a "stand in" for you if you need to. Temple Blessing:
The couple later in the morning went to a Thai Buddhist temple to get the blessing of a famous head monk at a local teak temple. The sweet scent of incense fills the air and the temple echoes the sound of the Buddhist chanting, Merit Making:
This will be when birds and or fish and or turtles will be released in order to create merit for the couple. Time for photos anyone? Each getting prepared for the knot tying ceremony and advice and blessing by the elders . website(s) are the exclusive property of Thailandweddings.com and are protected under Thailand, United States and International Copyright Laws. |
